Q. Are Diabetic Supplies covered under the Prescription Drug for people on Medicare?

A. No, They are covered under Medicare Part B. Medicare Part B, will generally cover the following diabetic related expense:
  • Blood glucose monitors
  • Test strips
  • Lancets
  • Self-management training -if ordered by physician
  • Therapeutic shoes for persons with severe diabetic foot disease
  • Medical nutritional therapy services-with physician referral

The DALRC Plan underwritten by Hartford will pay, after the $500 part B deductible has been met, 50% of the 20% coinsurance until the member's out of pocket (for the calendar year) expense reaches $1,000. Once the $1,000 out of pocket has been met, the plan will reimburse the full 20% for covered expenses for the remainder of the calendar year.

Information Relating to Liberty Medical

You have to sign up for the program. Liberty Medical will contact the individual's physician about the specific diabetic needs. Then, Liberty will deliver the necessary supplies to the individual. They do not charge postage and advertise that their actual cost may be lower than the individuals local pharmacy.

Liberty will file claims with Medicare. Once Medicare has paid, Marsh would receive the claim for their supplemental benefits electronically.
